Why I Became a Traffic Lawyer – A Personal Story

When people ask me why I chose to focus my legal career on traffic law, they usually expect a story about fast cars or a desire for courtroom drama. The real answer is more personal — and more meaningful to me. It starts with family, values, and the belief that helping people with everyday problems can be just as important as high-profile litigation.

A Judge in the Family

My journey into traffic law begins with my wife's grandfather, who served as a traffic court judge. He spoke often about the people who came before him — frequently nervous, confused, and unsure of how the system worked. He didn’t see them as “violators” but as neighbors and citizens who deserved respect, fairness, and clear guidance.

His stories stuck with me. They showed me that even something as seemingly minor as a traffic ticket could turn someone’s life upside down. A few points on a license might mean higher insurance rates, a suspended license, or even job loss — especially for professional drivers. I saw that helping people navigate this process could have a real impact on their lives.

Starting My Practice

I opened my own practice in 1993, and over the years, my focus gradually shifted to traffic violations and vehicular crimes. The more I handled these cases, the more I realized how much confusion and fear they caused — and how much good I could do by stepping in.

From speeding and red light violations and now cellphone violations to more serious charges like reckless driving or driving on a suspended license, I saw how important it was to have someone on your side who knew how the system worked, who would answer your call, and who would fight to protect your license, your record, and your peace of mind.

Every Client Matters

I’ve worked with people from every walk of life: teenagers who made a mistake, parents late for school drop-offs, delivery drivers trying to make a living, and professionals with everything on the line. What they all had in common was this: they didn’t want to be defined by one traffic stop. And neither do I.

I measure success not in points avoided or fines reduced — though that’s part of it — but in how my clients feel at the end. Relieved. Informed. Taken seriously. Respected.

Why I Keep Doing It

There’s satisfaction in winning a tough case, sure. But what really keeps me going is that moment when a client says, “I’m so glad I called you.” Or when someone comes back years later with another issue, or refers a family member because they know I’ll treat them right.

This is not glamorous work, but it’s meaningful work. It’s personal. And that’s why I do it.
